A vertical video is fine. It plays inside your Tribute with the background filling the space on either side, and nothing gets cut off.
If you'd rather it were horizontal
You have three options, in the order most people try them.
Leave it
Most Tributes end up with a mix of orientations, because most people record on a phone. Once there are a few of them it reads as intentional rather than as a mistake.
Rotate it
If a video came in sideways rather than upright — recorded in landscape but stored the wrong way round — you can fix it yourself. Click Edit Media in the right-hand panel, click the clip, then use Rotate Left or Rotate Right. Click Save.
Ask for another take
Open the Invite panel, find the person in your Guest List, and get in touch. Ask them to turn the phone sideways and record again. Their new video arrives alongside the first — keep whichever you prefer and remove the other.
Stopping it happening in the first place
Set the Participant Prompt in Settings. It's the instruction every guest reads immediately before they record, and it's the highest-leverage sentence on the whole page. Something like:
“Turn your phone sideways, find a window to face, and tell us your favorite memory of Dad.”
People follow it. It costs you one sentence and saves you a dozen emails.
